C.OL.O.M.BO. stands for “Customized Olive Oil Metallic Bottle”, a metal container in the form of a bottle intended for packing food products, and in particular olive oil and extra-virgin olive oil.
The bottle is made in tin-coated steel, more commonly known as “tinplate”. This material is composed of steel covered with a thin film of tin that protects the steel externally against possible corrosion.
The bottle is manufactured as a three-piece can, made up of a bottom, the main body and a top section. Until recently, only plain cans were made, with flat bottoms and tops and plain bodies, but Colombo explores a new technological frontier where cans with shaped bodies and above all top sections can also be produced.
The bottle was designed for use with food oils, and more specifically as an innovative alternative to packing in glass bottles. The can’s shape, similar to that of a conventional bottle, offers oil bottlers the possibility of easily alternating both glass and metal bottles on the same filling line.
The use of steel also guarantees other important advantages, including lightness and protection against sunlight.
Colombo can be supplied in several different capacities and shapes. The cylindrical version is available with capacities of 250 ml, 500 ml and 750 ml, with the square version available in the 750 ml format only.
The tops and bottoms of both versions are round with a 65 mm diameter, with overall dimensions comparable therefore to a conventional square bottle.

The aluminium cap with incorporated spout is the classic cap used for glass bottles, a simplification that is already a significant innovation on the oil packing panorama. Normally, in fact, different filling lines must be used for every packaging type available (glass, PET and steel cans), meaning that bottlers choosing to use a variety of packing formats are forced to invest in multiple filling lines.
